At this time you don't want anything pressing on milk ducts, which can contribute to blockages. Most lactation experts suggest avoiding rigid underwire in the first 6 weeks while your supply is establishing. During pregnancy, we recommend to roughly go up one cup and one back size from your pre-pregnancy bra as a place to start. Often you'll get fuller again in the bust when the milk comes in at birth. Then at around 3 months they'll settle again.
A nursing bra makes breastfeeding significantly easier. Regular bras don't accommodate the daily size fluctuations as your breasts fill and empty, and accessing them for feeding is awkward — especially one-handed with a hungry baby. A nursing bra with a drop-down clip lets you feed quickly and comfortably without fully undressing.
