10 Unexpected & Amazing Uses for Breast Milk

10 Unexpected & Amazing Uses for Breast Milk

 1. Healing Minor Skin Irritations

  • Baby acne: Dab a few drops on the affected area.

  • Eczema or dry patches: Apply topically to soothe and moisturise.

  • Diaper rash: A little breast milk can calm redness and inflammation.

  • Cradle cap: Massage into scalp before gently brushing flakes out.

 2. Eye Infections (like conjunctivitis)

  • A few drops in the eye have been traditionally used to soothe pink eye (always consult your doctor first, though — just to be safe).

 3. Nasal Congestion

  • Use a few drops of breast milk in each nostril (like saline drops) to help loosen mucus in stuffy noses.

 4. Ear Infections

  • A drop or two in the ear can provide comfort due to its anti-inflammatory properties — again, not a replacement for medical care, but sometimes used as a home remedy.

 5. Nipple Care

  • Rub a little on your nipples after feeding. It helps heal soreness, dryness, and cracking (like nature’s nipple cream).

 6. Milk Baths

  • Add a few ounces to baby’s bath for soft, soothed skin. Great for eczema, rashes, or just some spa vibes.

 7. Teething Relief

  • Freeze breast milk in small molds or mesh feeders for teething popsicles — soothing and nutritious!

 8. First Aid

  • Use breast milk to help minor cuts, scrapes, or insect bites heal a little faster due to its antimicrobial properties.

9. Treating Thrush

  • Apply to baby’s mouth or your nipples after feeding to help combat yeast infections, though anti-fungal treatment might still be needed.

 10. Donate it

  • If you have a little extra, investigate donating it to your local milk bank.
